Where New York's history comes alive! |
|||
Staten Island The Dutch surrendered Staten Island to the English in 1664, who in turn made the final purchase of the Island in 1670 from the Indians. Located at the entrance of New York Harbor, Staten Island has always endured a strategic military history. The British used the island during the beginning of the American Revolution as a staging area for their troops. Staten Island has been cited as a most exciting source of historical information in that the borough contains more historical structures dating back to the seventeenth century than does any other in the city. |
